Octopus (Octopoda)
AKA: grouper candy
Octopus inhabit diverse regions of the ocean, including coral reefs, pelagic waters, and the ocean floor. Octopus have eight arms each with suction cups. Most all octopus have soft bodies with no internal skeleton. They have neither a protective outer shell and no internal bones, like cuttlefish or squid. A beak, similar in shape to a parrot’s beak, is the only hard part of their body. This enables them to squeeze through very narrow slits between underwater rocks, which is very helpful when they are fleeing from their enemies.
Uses: Affectionately referred to as “grouper candy” especially for red grouper, however, cut pieces can be used to catch any carnivorous, bottom dwelling fish. (A very firm bait that can often be used several times over making this bait very cost effective)
