SCIENTIFIC NAME: Callinectes sapidus

AKA: Blue Crabs

PROMINENT FEATURES:

The claws are bright blue, and those on mature females feature red tips.  Blue crabs have three pairs of walking legs and paddle-shaped rear swimming legs.

USES:

For inshore applications, around bridges, and fast moving currents for targeting permit and tarpon.  On the flats, a large blue crab can be peeled, trimmed, and cut into quarters.  Even in the darkest waters foraging drum will sniff out this incredible enticement.  In the deep, a large blue crab can be split in half and soaked on the bottom for hungry grouper or cobia.  Also a great bait for redfish, black drum, hogfish, and sheepshead.
