PROMINENT FEATURES:

Skates are cartilaginous fish related to rays and sharks. More than 200 species have been described. Skates are harvested for their wings for human consumption, and small skates are harvested as bait for the lobster fishery.

USES:

Skate is an awesome bait when used whole when targeting large sharks. Commercial crab fishermen will also use them in their traps. A good, tough bait for cutting into strips.
